In my current line of work, I deploy hundreds of computing devices every year; everything from tablets, to desktops, to smartphones. The latest laptop I’ve been configuring is the Dell e6520 model. This model requires an additional step not needed with previous systems. I just replaced a PCI wireless adapter for someone over the weekend. They originally had a small tower style Dell PC, and had just bought a new ultra small form factor Dell. I wrote a while back about the HP P3005 printers and a bad run of formatter boards that they had. Now, I’ve come across a way to fix quite a few of them. Evidently, some of the printers had a bad cold solder joint on the board. Read the rest of this entry »

Starting today, I’ve noticed a host of sites having a problem with a file called xd_proxy.php . I’ve noticed it most with an Ubuntu PC running Firefox. Every time the page is reloaded, I’m prompted to download a file called xd_proxy.php. Read the rest of this entry »
windows 7 hangs shutting down

Here’s how to fix it. I installed Windows 7 64-bit on an HP slimline PC last evening. Windows installed very quickly and seemed to detect all of my hardware without any additional drivers needed.
