Sometimes removing Java from a system leaves a bunch of remnants behind. This can lead to errors updating, or re-installing the latest version of Java. Today I found a simple tool that can clean up leftovers from previous Java versions. The tool is called JavaRa and the place to get it is SingularLabs. When updating Java on an older system, it kept failing with an error that “Neither command line parameter specified is an existing directory” and then closing out. Simply removing Java via Add/Remove Programs didn’t resolve the problem.
JavaRa is a very simple program that is straightforward in its use. It doesn’t require an install and all you have to do after starting it is click the “Remove Older Versions” button. One thing I didn’t care for was the fact that when it runs, it doesn’t indicate it’s actually doing anything. It will sit there seeming locked up, but then tell you it’s done a minute or two later. Just give it time and it will finish.
