remember the Commodore 64

I was cleaning in my basement this afternoon and came across something I forgot I had. Several years ago, a friend told me that he knew an older fellow that was moving out of his house. He needed to get rid of his “old computer stuff” and told me I could have what I wanted.

What I found was not what I was expecting. When he said “old computer stuff”, he meant archeological computer stuff. As you can see in the picture, this was one of the computers I picked up. It’s a Commodore 64, – with the original box.

It has a six-digit serial number under 500k, and I also found I have an external floppy drive to match it, also in the box.The floppy drive unit is about the same size as the C64 itself.

I’m glad I re-found it as it brought back memories of the old Commodore +4 I had when I was a youngster. My parents got that from one of those timeshare presentations and I got the most use out of it. What I remember most was typing in seemingly huge programs to get a small tune to play, then, not knowing how(or if I was even able) to save it.

I found some more interesting old hardware while rustling around, those that like historical computer equipment will like it. I’ll post a “part 2″ another day.
