for those who haven’t heard, there’s a wordpress worm making rounds on the web. I haven’t seen it myself, but it supposedly auto-infects vulnerable Wordpress installations. My site was formerly running on Wordpress 2.6.4, so I decided it was time to update it to reduce risk the risk of problems with the siteI’ve upgraded Wordpress a time or two in the past, and each time I feel the need to cover my eyes, look the other way and click the button to upgrade. Portions of my site rely heavily on plugins, so maintaining compatibility is important. Here’s how the upgrade went, hopefully it will help someone out there that is experiencing the same problem I did.![]()
After hearing of the worm, I knew I needed to upgrade. I backed up the entire site and the Wordpress database in case the upgrade failed. Second, I noticed I was unable to upgrade any of the plugins I was using in 2.6.4. Each plugin failed to upgrade, so I knew it wasn’t a single plugin having a problem. I searched around and found someone else having the same problem. For them, the solution was upgrading Wordpress, then upgrading the plugins.
I deactivated all of the plugins on the site, upgraded Wordpress, then attempted to upgrade the plugins prior to activating them. It worked like a charm. I activated the plugins one at a time and I think I have retained full functionality of the site through the upgrade. If you find something buggym let me know via the contact page.
