make your own font

Ever wanted to make your own handwriting font? Sometimes it would just be nice to type something up that vaguely resembles your own handwriting. Well, thanks to a free website and your scanner, it’s possible to create your own font in under an hour!

It used to be rather expensive to make your own font. You’d fill out forms, attach a check, mail them in and wait for a font to be emailed to you. Now it’s much quicker and FREE thanks to FontCapture.

There are a couple simple steps to follow to make your own font.

1. Go to FontCapture to download and print the PDF form

2. Complete the form, using a Sharpie fine-point pen(preferably, I’ve found them to work VERY well)

3. Scan the form with your scanner at 200DPI or higher in greyscale, saving it as a PNG or GIF

4. Upload it back to the FontCapture site, and download your truetype font.

It took me about 20minutes to complete and I found the results to be outstanding. My printed font worked much better than my cursive font, due to trying to line-up the characters. As a side note, you may find yourself struggling to remember how to write a few of the more obscure cursive letters. I fought to remember Q and F for some reason. I figure it’s because I tend to print in all caps when writing something out, not to holler, but just out of habit.
