A very generous friend and former co-worker gave me a gift certificate to Hotel Strasburg (in Strasburg, Virginia) for Christmas this year.  After making reservations, my wife and I ate dinner there last evening. I had always heard good things about Hotel Strasburg, but had never eaten there myself. I had an assumption that it was more expensive than most restaurants I usually eat at, and didn’t know if the menu would have the varieties of food I cared for.

Hotel Strasburg is located at 213 S. Holliday Street, in Strasburg, Virginia and was less than five minutes from Interstate 81. On the corner of a four-way stop, Hotel Strasburg is an earlier 20th century style multi-story building. Upon entering, one notices the period decorations and construction style.

I let the waitress know we had reservations and we were quickly seated.  The waitress described the special of the day and took our drink order. After arriving back with our iced teas and complimentary bread, she took our order for dinner. I ordered a steak with a salad and my wife selected the shrimp scampi.

Our salads were the first to arrive and I have to admit, the lettuce was about the best I’ve had from any restaurant I’ve eaten at. Many times, salad lettuce looks ok, but you find older lettuce hidden underneath, but this wasn’t the case with my salad last night. There wasn’t a soggy piece to be found in it, and it had the right amount of dressing on it.

Shortly after finishing our salads, the entrees arrived and I was pleased to see the steak was just as I ordered it, medium rare. The sides of roasted potato and mixed vegetables were both perfectly cooked as well.

The staff were all in good spirits and more than helpful with the few questions we had.  On the way out, I took a few minutes to enjoy the artwork on the hallway walls. Covering one wall were the various awards the restaurant had earned in previous years. After the wonderful experience we had last evening, I know why Hotel Strasburg received them. This restaurant will definitely be on my list of “eat there more often” dining destinations.

In case you are interested in visiting this restaurant on your next visit to the Shenandoah Valley, here’s a map to Hotel Strasburg.
