As I mentioned in other articles, I have a late-90’s Sony 8mm camcorder. It uses 8mm cassettes which work well, but don’t fit in standard VCRs. Since the recorded media is analog, it requires playback to a capture card to digitize onto a PC for editing. Connecting the camera is cumbersome and requires a lot of cables, and time. Then you have the mess of the camcorder cables draped across the desk.
This week, while digging through the “archives” in my basement (some people call them piles of junk, I call them archives), I came across a gem that will help me get my 8mm tapes digitized. It’s a Sony 8mm EV-A60 VCR for 8mm tapes. Having reached almost betamax status, these players aren’t easy to come by.
I hooked it up and tested it out this afternoon. It had been wrapped in bubble wrap when I got it from a recording company, so I think it was pretty well taken care of. It plays great and seems to work fine. As soon as I’m done converting my two or three tapes, I’m going to sell it. Let me know if you are interested, and make a reasonable offer. Paypal only, please. It includes a remote control and the power cable. UPDATE: This is now sold.
I’ve got a 100% positive eBay feedback rating, but don’t want to deal with their fees, so I thought I’d try this first. New, at the only place I can find them, they sell for over $900, but I’m not expecting near that much.
