Insecure Internet Activity, Threat of Virus Attack in Internet Explorer

26 August, 2008 (09:49) | internet, malware, tips | By: bbowers

A computer I was working on still kept randomly redirecting to a locally generated web page stating “Insecure Internet Activity, Threat of Virus Attack”.

Oddly, none of the tools I had, detected any problems. (nothing from Spybot, MalwareBytes, and HijackThis,) Fraudulent antivirus software had been removed a few days earlier, but this symptom remained. After trying all other means of resolution, I found the button in Internet Explorer 7 ’s advanced options page labeled “Reset” to reset internet explorer’s settings. Like magic, everything was fixed. As best as I can determine, a DLL had been modified to cause the activity, but managed to evade detection.
