Army Men RTS dll call crashed resolution

9 August, 2008 (13:11) | computers, games | By: bbowers

For those that still want to play Army Men RTS on their modern systems, you may have a problem installing the game. After you accept the installation terms and EULA, an error appears with the message that a dll call has crashed. From my investigation, I believe this to be due the amount of memory on the system installing the game. Here’s the (somewhat) simple solution.

Option 1:

Install VMWare server (free) and setup a Windows system with 256MB of RAM and a 10-12GB hard disk. Install Army Men RTS on it and then copy the directory structure (usually c:\program files\3DO) to the system you want to play it on. On the virtual machine, also export the HKEY_LocalMachine\Software\3DO folder and import it to the PC you’ll be playing it on.

Option 2:

Setup another physical computer with about the same specs and install it there, then do the folder copy and registry export/import as described above.

I think the problem is the systeminfo utility that’s included with the game. It may not be able to handle the specs of faster computers.
