Offline updates for Windows and Office suites
If you put a new computer on the internet unpatched, it will most likely be infected with viruses in minutes. This is a big problem when trying to get a new computer updated, since it has to be online to download the patches. Or does it? There are a couple solutions to this problem, here’s the one I have found to be most reliable.
What if you could setup a new computer, pop a DVD in the drive and let the DVD auto-install all necessary patches for Windows and Microsoft Office? Well, it’s possible and C’tUpdate is a great way to do it.
On a computer that already has internet access and several gigabytes of disk space, visit the link above and download CTUpdate version 4.72. Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your hard disk and run UpdateGenerator.exe . you’ll get the following screen. Choose the languages you need updates for and make the important selection at the bottom as to whether you want individual ISOs (CD or DVD) generated for each product and language.

hit the Office Suite tab and choose the version(s) of Microsoft Office you have installed and click Start when you want the files downloaded. It will take a few hours to get it all downloaded and built depending on the speed of your internet connection.
When it’s complete, you can burn the CD/DVD ISO images to disc. Simply insert them in your new PC and let the autorun walk you through the process. The system will reboot and continue as needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: if your screensaver on your new PC is set to lock your system after X minutes, be sure to clear this setting for the duration of the CTUpdate. CTUpdate creates a temporary user/pass to allow it to reboot and complete installation and it won’t complete if the screen is locked. (The user/pass is removed after installation is complete)
