free password management software to store your passwords

I have accounts all over the internet for various stores, services, forums, etc… To be safe, it’s best to have separate logins and/or passwords for each. How does one keep track of all of them? The easiest way is to use a piece of software that keeps them for you. You only have to remember the password to access your software.

There are a lot of software packages that do a good job of storing your passwords securely. The best password managers will store your passwords in an encrypted database and allow you to take the entire program on a USB storage device. Some of those packages are expensive, and some are not. Here’s one that’s free.

PINS uses 448bit Blowfish encryption that is impervious to cracking. It runs on any 32bit version of Windows and allows for password categories to be created for easy management. Additionally, it includes a password generator for those times that you want something random and need a password fast. It will even track passwords that are about to expire if you give them an expiration date.

For those on a tight budget, PINS is a very good alternative to paid solutions. If you use it, consider donating to the developer that created it.

My media system, video editing, fileserver, and so on are left on for months at a time so I don’t spend time waiting for the system to boot up. With so many passwords to remember, it’s easy to set a box up, and forget to store the password in my password manager. [...]
