free office program suite

There’s another office suite available that isn’t very well known, yet. I think that will change pretty soon. Everyone is familiar with Microsoft Office, and many have used Open Office or Star Office. Microsoft Office comes with a huge price tag and Open Office runs on Java which affects the speed.

I just tried out a new office package that claims full compatibility with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Works 1-8 (something Microsoft Office doesn’t do at all well), but runs much faster than Open Office.

Taking only 48MB of hard disk space after installation, The Fifth Element office suite looks to be a great alternative for those with slower computers, and a small budget. While the interface is very plain, that can be a great benefit. It only requires a few megabytes of RAM to run and will run on any Windows system that has 1024×768 16bit graphics.

In addition to Word and Excel alternatives, the suite includes an audio player, CD ripper, lan chat client, and a slough of other add-ons.

The feature base of The Fifth Element is impressive for the small footprint and minimal system requirements. If you have need of a free office package with a non-existent price, The Fifth Element may just be right for you.
